The National Assembly and Senate of Pakistan is using open source web development technologies for its web portal. In this regard, Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) organized a five-week training course on “Open Source Web Development Technologies” for the officers of the National Assembly and Senate of Pakistan. The main objective was to enhance the capabilities of the staff managing the web portals in advance programming and website management expertise. The course commenced on April 09, 2018 at PIPS campus, Islamabad in its fully equipped computer lab that provided an opportunity for hands-on experience for better understanding and learning. The class duration was of 1.5 hours each from 08:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. every morning and comprised of multiple modules that included PHP, Drupal 7, MySQL and Laravel. Ms. Rida Zahra Hashmi, Web Project Manager, Bahria University & Freelance Trainer and Mr. Muhammad Salman, Lab Engineer, Bahria University facilitated the course, which concluded on May 11, 2018. The worthy Executive Director PIPS, Mr. Zafarullah Khan distributed the certificates amongst the course participants. In his closing remarks, Mr. Zafarullah Khan highlighted the importance of I.T in the modern world and desired that such learning collaborations should continue amongst parliamentary institutions in future as well.
